Boxy Cabinets Review: Framed and Frameless Series

Boxy Cabinetry is really two products under one name. Its 1000 Series is a framed cabinet with a solid wood face frame; its 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 Series are frameless. All of them share the same core recipe as Boxy publishes it: eucalyptus plywood boxes with birch veneer, 5/8" solid birch dovetail drawers, full-extension soft-close undermount slides, 3D-adjustable soft-close hinges and 3/4" plywood shelves. Boxy Inc. is a California company with its Northern California office in Hayward, and it backs its cabinets with a 5-year limited warranty.

So the first question for a Boxy buyer is not "is Boxy good?" but "which Boxy?" The answer decides the look, the box thickness and the finish options.

Who is behind Boxy

Boxy describes itself as born out of decades of experience in the kitchen cabinet industry, with a stated aim of offering plenty of options, "including framed and frameless constructions, as well as regular and slim shaker door styles." The company, Boxy Inc., lists three offices: Northern California (3455 Arden Rd, Hayward), Southern California (Cerritos) and Washington (Tukwila). Boxy's site does not say where its cabinets are manufactured, so we do not either.

For Bay Area buyers, the Hayward office is a practical detail: the brand has a regional presence rather than only a distant factory. Its current catalogs, revised through mid-2026, are published on its site, which makes it easy to check a spec against a quote.

Framed 1000 Series vs. frameless 2000 to 5000 Series

Two things stand out. First, the frameless series use a thicker 3/4" box, which is what a frameless cabinet needs because there is no frame to stiffen the front. Second, the drawer and hinge package is the same across all five series, so moving between framed and frameless does not mean giving up full-extension drawers or dovetails. Finishes by series

Each Boxy series is defined as much by its finish family as by its door:

• 1000 Series (framed): painted Ivory White and Dove Gray, and stained Mingo Oak.
• 2000 and 3000 Series: painted Ivory White, Dove Gray, Navy Blue and Olive Green, and stained Mingo Oak, Beaman Oak and Black Walnut. Navy Blue is listed for base and pantry cabinets only.
• 4000 Series: Arctic White in PET, and Dune Oak, Jasper Walnut and Espresso Oak in real wood veneer.
• 5000 Series: PET finishes (Blanco, Blanco SM, Cashmere SM, Tortora SM, Agave SM, Antracita SM) and melamine finishes (Evolve, Acquedotti, Valley, Giffoni).

Boxy notes that its real wood and wood-veneer finishes will vary in color, grain and texture, and that this is normal rather than a defect. It also publishes certifications for specific finishes: BC1004, BC2004, BC2005, BC2006, BC3004, BC3005, BC3006, BC4012, BC4013 and BC4014 are listed as UL GREENGUARD Gold certified and CARB Phase 2 compliant. If low emissions matter to you, those are the codes to ask for; Boxy does not list the other finishes as certified.

Warranty, as Boxy publishes it

Boxy's limited warranty (revised September 18, 2024) covers its cabinets against defects in material or workmanship for five years under normal residential use from the date of original purchase. It applies to the initial purchaser at the original installation site, and a claim without proof of purchase is void.

The exclusions are specific and worth reading before installation day:

• Hairline cracking at the joints of painted frames and doors is treated as a natural characteristic of wood.
• Fading or aging from light is excluded, as is color variation, mineral streaks and knots in stain-grade wood.
• Damage from job-site handling or installation is excluded, and so is door and drawer misalignment caused by cabinets installed out of level, square or plumb.
• Boxy asks that indoor temperature stay between 60°F and 80°F and relative humidity between 35% and 50%; conditions outside that range are treated as improper maintenance and void the warranty.

The misalignment clause is the one to share with your installer. On frameless cabinets especially, an even reveal depends on the boxes going in level and plumb.

Boxy does not publish lead times. Ask the dealer for current availability on your series and finish.

Price tier, in relative terms

Boxy does not publish prices. On our brands page, Boxy sits in the mid tier of the lines we represent, above J&K's value tier and below the premium lines. Nationally, HomeAdvisor's June 2026 guide reports that frameless cabinets cost about 15% more on average than framed, so if you are torn between Boxy's framed 1000 Series and a frameless series, price the same layout in both before deciding. Who Boxy suits, and who it doesn't

Worth a close look if you want:

• A plywood box, dovetail drawers and full-extension soft-close slides as standard, in either framed or frameless.
• A clean shaker kitchen, regular or slim, in a proven paint or oak finish.
• A flat-panel modern kitchen in wood veneer (4000 Series) or PET and melamine (5000 Series).
• Specific low-emission finishes with published GREENGUARD Gold certification.

Probably not the line for:

• Custom paint colors or a wide species list; Boxy's palette is a defined set. A line such as Shiloh offers paint matching.
• Inset doors; Boxy's published doors are full overlay.
• Buyers who want a warranty longer than five years.
